If You Think it's Happened
How Do You Know?

Here are some things to watch for that may indicate you have been hit:

Lost / stolen wallet

Car or home broken into

Data breach letter from company or association

A call / letter saying a creditor has received a credit application with your name and Social Security number

A call / letter approving or denying you from a creditor

Credit card, utility or telephone statements with your name and address for which you did not apply

Change of address statements (checking accounts, utility and phone accounts)

Missing mail (i.e. – bank, credit card, telephone, utility statements)

Unrecognized purchases on your credit card statement

Unrecognized deposits, transfers, withdrawals especially international use of bank, checking or investment/savings accounts

If you look at your credit report (which you should) here are some possible signs you have been hit:

New accounts, closed accounts and collection accounts

Name or address change

Employment change

Credit limit change

Tax liens

Judgments

Bankruptcy filings

Unauthorized inquiries

If you detect any of the above, you should follow these action steps.
